Criteria for Song Blacklisting

This list of criterias isn't exact, and may depend case to case, with the goal being to restrict tracks exploiting the point system.

Generally, songs that meet the criteria but aren't problematic points wise will likely not be considered to be added to the blacklist.

What You Should Try to Avoid

1. Repetitive Patterns

Consistently repeating patterns with very minimal variation or no variation at all. Ambient music will likely be treated more strictly in this regard.

Examples

2. Pure Noise

Digital or analog noise with no resemblance to music.

Examples

3. Edited Versions of Songs

Edits such as sped up versions of already dense songs, or self made cut versions of songs.

Sped up versions of already dense songs and cut versions of songs (intro cuts in particular) may be discussed further and have more breathing room out of the other mentioned criteria in this list.

Example

  • John Cale - Super Cathedra (sped up Ex Cathedra)
4. SelfMade Compilations

The title should be self-explanatory. This also includes selfmade loops of songs.

Additional note for local files

If you have top plays on local files of songs that can't easily be found online, we may ask you to send us a link of the song (Youtube, Bandcamp, Soundcloud etc.), or send the file to us directly.

We will avoid this as much as we can, but if you have several top plays with songs that can't be found anywhere online, we might want to investigate due to concerns of hiding point exploits that way.

Blacklist FAQ:

Does the criteria listing for "sped up versions" mean that any nightcore song is at risk of being banned?
No, the criteria list is oriented towards the worst examples of sped up edits, the edits with extremely high points potential. That's why we mentioned "sped up versions of already dense songs".
Should I be worried about playing files of unknown songs?
We would only question high point plays on unknown songs if you happen to have a lot of those in your top plays and are very high in the global leaderboards, or very high in the leaderboards of a single mode. That's the only way we would even notice, as we don't intend to stalk anyone's profile.
What about these 15 minute videos of extended songs that end up being loops of 2-3 minute songs?
Those will currently not be considered to be added to the blacklist, as they're not problematic points wise. However, please refrain from making your own extended edits of songs.
